Subframe Bushing Upgrades
As enthusiasts ourselves we understand the need for a good suspension setup and bushings often go overlooked in our opinion.
A few types of bushings to consider:
POLYBUSH
A stiffer and louder ride, and probably a bit harsh for the road but excellent for a track or race car. They eliminate slop and make the chassis super nimble and direct.
HARDENED RUBBER
A perfect upgrade for a road or even track car if you’re looking for some stiffening. You won’t get the same noise as poly bush but it will be slightly louder than stock bushings. Aftermarket brands are available that specialise in these, or in instances you can use bushings made for a performance car. For example using the E90 M3 subframe bushings on an E90 non M car. These are much stiffer, you don’t have the extra gaps and play that you find in the design of the non M cars.
SOLID BUSHES
These bushings are not as extreme as they first may seem. Using solid rear subframe bushings makes the subframe effectively a brace, eliminating all vibrations. They have no started to make an appearance even on factory cars. They do increase road and differential noise, which is something to bear in mind but the ride they give is second to none. If you have a sporty road or track car, these are worth considering.
OE RUBBER
Does what it says on the tin. Refreshes your suspension feel to how it came from the factory. Will tighten it up but without ending any harshness. A very sensible option for daily drivers and cruisers.
For those wanting the everyday comfort but with more controllable handling, upgrading to uni-ball bushings can help if that bushings is a standard type from factory.
